On Wednesday, Mary Tyler Moore died in a Connecticut hospital, after a week of being hooked up to a respirator with pneumonia. The beloved actress, producer, feminist icon was a passionate advocate of animal rights. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 33, she raised money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in addition to helping spread awareness of the disease. In 2011, Moore underwent elective brain surgery to remove a benign tumor. She passed away surrounded by friends and family due to cardiopulmonary arrest that was caused by the pneumonia. The world will truly miss this legendary woman.
